The School of Information Science and Technology was established at the same time when Sanda University was founded in 1992. It was authorized to be upgraded from a junior-college to an undergraduate level of education institution in 2002. The School of Information Science and Technology was formed by the merger of Computer Science and Technology, Electronic Commerce, and Information Management and Information Systems in 2011. The computer major is one of the earliest set up and offered by the School at the time of the founding of the institution. The majors of E-commerce and Information Management and Information Systems were set up and offered in 2003; Software Engineering in 2015; and Data Science and Big Data Technology in 2020 with the approval of education authorities.
At present, the School has five undergraduate majors of Computer Science and Technology, Software Engineering, E-commerce, Data Science and Big Data Technology, and Information Management and Information Systems. The School, with Big Data Technology, ICT Technology, Finance Technology, Software Testing, Information Security and Business Data Analysis as its key development directions, is committed to the cultivation of high caliber, multidisciplinary, application-oriented, and talented students who possess long-term competitive power, short-term explosive force, broad adaptive faculty; and rich imagination.
The School currently has a student enrollment of 1,834, and a full-time faculty team of 51 teaching professionals including 7 full professors, 10 associate professors or senior engineering, 19 lecturers or engineers, 3 teaching assistants, 2 laboratory technicians, and 10 full-time administrators and student counselors. Among the faculty and staff members, there are 7 holding doctoral degree, 34 holding master’s degree, 15 externally hired full-time teaching professionals including 3 full professors, 6 associate professors, and 6 lecturers. The School also cooperates with companies and enterprises in setting up a joint teaching team composed of 11 adjunct professors and associate professors coming from CLPS Co., Ltd., Dawning Information Industry Co., Ltd. (Sugon), Huawei, CSTQB, Bank Software Testing Talent Training Alliance, and China Soft International Co., Ltd.
Characteristics of the School
The School consistently adheres to school-running philosophy of close integration of cultivation target of talented students with local economic development, the cooperation between academic institutions and enterprises, and combination of education with production, focuses on the frontier development of the industry, explores and executes the education mode of cultivating application-oriented talented personnel, based on the needs of social economic development and the characteristics of private undergraduate education institutions, so that the cultivation objective of serving the society, the academic major directions needed by the market, timely updated teaching content, and the characteristics of academic majors that strengthen practice will all gradually be formed. The School’s quality of education in terms of talent cultivation has been well appraised by the society, and its student employment competitiveness remains strong during the entire employment process. For example, the employment sign-up rate of students of each major offered by the School is among the highest every year. The student employment rate has been maintained at more than 99%, the industry employment rate has been maintained at more than 80%, the average salary for the students of all majors for their first job assignment after their graduation has been ranked among the top 10, and those of the computer major has been ranked among the top 3 in the entire Sanda University.
The School adheres to the market-oriented school-running mode of integration of education with production, aims to cultivate first-class, application-oriented, and technical talents meeting the needs of technological and local economic development, and carries out in-depth cooperation of school with enterprise, school with school, and school with certification agency.
(A) “Embedded” Cooperative Talent Training
The “Embedded” Cooperative Talent Training of the School is to explore the new cultivation mode of talented personnel with all-round development oriented by the competency requirements under newly emerged technologies and industries through cooperation and articulation with well-known companies and enterprises, and establishment of industry schools. In other words, the School’s cooperation and articulation with companies and enterprises well-known both domestically and internationally makes it possible for the School to embed the course content needed by the industries for teaching students into the School’s curriculum, as well as for the companies and enterprises to directly participate in their students’ teaching and graduation design guidance. The School, through its cooperation with CLPS Co., Ltd., has established “Sanda-CLPS School” to jointly cultivating financial IT talented personnel. It has joined the “Data China 100-School Program” sponsored by National Center for Schooling Development Program under the Chinese Ministry of Education, and established “Big Data School” as the result of cooperating with Dawning Information Industry Co., Ltd. (Sugon) for cultivating application-oriented and talented personnel in big data technology. It has also joined “Huawei IT School” and cooperated with Huawei Global Training Center to jointly cultivate application-oriented, technical and talented personnel in ICT.
(B) “Training-Internship-Employment One-stop
The School has cooperated with Asia Information Technology Group, PricewaterhouseCoopers Information Technology Co., Ltd., Pactera Technology International Ltd., Bank of Communications, Accenture Consultation Co., SHOPEX Network Technology Co., Ltd. and others to articulate pre-job training programs with professional elective courses, and with Infosys (China) to send more than 100 students to Mysore Global Training Center in India for nearly three months of training, who, after the completion of training, will be able to directly enter companies and enterprises for internship and employment.
(C) “Dual-Certificate Integration”
The School has cooperated with ISTQB (International Software Testing Qualification Board), HCNA/NP/IE (Huawei ICT College), CCNA/NP/IE (Cisco Networking Academy Board), Shanghai Bureau of Human Resources and Social Security and others to update the teaching content according to the professional qualification examination standards, provide a professional qualification examination platform for students, and improve the students' job adaptability. The School explores a new education mode of combining vocational ability training with undergraduate teaching to cultivate application-oriented, technological, and talented personnel, through joining events such as the recently participated Pilot Project of 1 + X Certificate.
The School has cooperated with Shanghai Transcosmos Marketing Service Co., Ltd. and introduced the real case of “November 11th” to the classroom teaching and program practical training, for the sake of nurturing the students’ ability of combining theory with practice, and providing reserve leaders for enterprises. It makes tremendous efforts to further enhance the employment competitiveness of graduating students through activities such as organizing them to join the Young College Student Training Camp Program sponsored by the Employment Promotion Center of Shanghai Municipal Bureau of Human Resources and Social Security, and at the same time, explores the possibility of offering pre-employment project practical training for applied technical professionals in the fields of Big Data Technology, Financial IT and Cloud Services in the future. It has also cooperated with well-known companies and enterprises such as Venustech to cultivate talented personnel of Information Security with different professional backgrounds, through organizing students to participate in program training of network security, information security, and others.
Progressing Step by Step
The School pays great attention to comprehensive practical teaching, exploring the establishment of a practical teaching system of “Professional Experiment → Course Design → Group-level Project Training → Comprehensive Project Practice → Enterprise Project Training and Internship”, and, to meet this goal, has set up 21 professional laboratories and interdisciplinary open laboratories for Big Data Application, Mobile Development, Embedded Development, ICT Networking Technology, Cloud Service Technology, Data Storage, Network Attack and Defense, and others, and provided students with 6 comprehensive practical training platforms for ITO Software Service Outsourcing, Simulated Banking System Development, Cross-border E-commerce, Network Technology Application Practice, and others to enhance their employment competitiveness through participating in the real-life operational practice of companies and enterprises. Currently, the School is in the process of building ICT Technology Practice Teaching Center, Big Data Application Innovation Base, Financial Technology Innovation Talent Training Base, Internet Business Teaching Practice Center, and Software Engineering Practice Education Center, and, at the same time, also in the preparation for the construction of Artificial Intelligence Production-education-research Talent Training Base and Huawei Cloud Kunpeng Center.
The School, aiming at the national strategy and the development of the City of Shanghai and its Yangtze River Delta Region, has timely introduced and followed up AI, 5G, IOT and domestic self-developed software and hardware technologies to initially formed a teaching platform and applied R & D group with data engineering as the core, computer technology as the foundation, and software engineering, e-commerce, financial technology and other cross interdisciplinary cooperation as the support, and become an important growth point of school connotation construction and development and an important embodiment of excellent school operation and management. In recent years, the School’s professional construction of academic fields of study has been recognized by the industry, and its graduates have been welcomed by companies and enterprises. The main achievements of the School include:

(B)The faculty and Stuff of the School have published 11 papers on teaching reform, and 31 papers on scientific research, and obtained 3 approved patents, and 1 invention patent application, and 3 software copyrights.
(C) The School has accomplished the construction of 7 municipal-level key courses with another 2 under construction, 1 institution-level quality course under construction, 10 institution-level key courses, full English courses and high-quality online courses with 6 under construction. 1 municipal-level teaching reform project; 10 school-level teaching reform projects have been completed and 2 are under construction, 1 teaching reform project of municipal-level, 10 institution-level teaching reform projects with 2 under construction, and editing of 1 textbook in chief, and participated in editing 2 textbooks.
(D) The students of the School, in the past few years, have won a total of national and Shanghai regional 98 various awards including 35 at or above provincial/municipal level in Year 2019 alone, in the competitions organized by University Computer Teaching Guidance Committee of Chinese Ministry of Education such as “Blue Bridge Cup” Computer Program Design Contest, Huawei ICT Proficiency Competition, National Mathematical Modeling Contest, Cisco Networking Academy Contest, National Information Security Ironman Triathlon Contest, National College Students' Computer Application Ability Contest, and others.
(E) The student employment rate in general is 100%; The employment rate for students local families in the city of Shanghai is 100%, while the employment rate of the out-of-town students is 75%; The employment rate for students majoring Computer Science and Technology and work for well-known IT companies and enterprises is above 30.3%.
(F) The School, paying great attention to international cooperation and exchange, has conducted cooperation projects such as exchange of overseas students, joint training of postgraduates and mutual visits of faculty members with University of Iowa in USA, Centria University of Applied Sciences of Finland, Otago Polytechnic University of New Zealand, Frankfurt University of Applied Technology in Germany, and other institutions of higher learning. It also works with IBM, TCS, Infosys and other multinational companies to build industry-university cooperation bases and joint laboratories.

Introduction to Industry Schools
(a) Sanda-CLPS Financial IT School
Shanghai will basically become an international financial center by Year 2020, in line with China's economic strength and the international status of RMB, and the FINTECH Center is one of the six centers in the 6+1 international financial center setup. Sanda-CLPS Financial IT School is a joint establishment of our school and Shanghai CLPS Information Technology Co., Ltd. (CLPS), exploring the cultivation of Interdisciplinary, multidisciplinary, application-oriented, talented and technical professionals who possess high cultural literacy and professional quality, and well adapt to the development of IT technology in the field of finance, with the help of enterprise technology advantages, to create professional characteristics in a specific direction of Financial IT.
(i) Both parties shall formulate talent training programs and teaching plans through discussion and negotiation, and take into account the national standards of professional construction and the requirements of post capacity of enterprises, so as to build a financial IT talent training system based on capacity;
(ii) The two parties shall establish a joint teaching team to cooperatively develop courses. At present, the courses offered include: JCL Job Control Language, COBOL Programming, DB2 Database Programming, VSAM File System, CICS Middleware Programming, Banking Business and System Overview, Financial IT Professional English, and Java Practical Training;
(iii) In order to strengthen students' practical ability, the School and the enterprise cooperatively build the simulation platform of mock bank experimental practical training, which is close to the real banking system environment, with complete business analysis, demand design, system development, software testing and other development processes, utilizing most of the front-end, middleware and back-end application development technologies, integrating ATM and POS. , Mobile terminal, counter, online banking and other mainstream channels, and realizing the seamless articulation of higher education institutional teaching system with the whole process training from basic courses, small project training to enterprise pre-job training;
(b) Sanda-Sugon Big Data College
Shanghai Sanda Univerisy is designated as one of the first batch of pilot universities in the Data China 100-school Project sponsored by Planning and Construction Center of the Chinese Ministry of Education. It has cooperated with Sugon Company under Chinese Academy of Sciences and jointly built Sanda-Sugon Big Data School. The two sides will jointly explore a new mode of talented personnel training in the field of Big Data through school-enterprise cooperation, based on the regional big data application characteristics, enterprise technical advantages and the strength of academic majors for cooperation. Sanda-Sugon Big Data School has been enrolling students since 2017, focusing on the direction of Data Engineering, Business Data Analysis and Data Security, exploring the cultivation of interdisciplinary compound talented personnel who are able to adapt to the rapid development of big data technology, and creating professional characteristics of specific application fields and directions of big data.
(i) Both parties shall formulate talented personnel training programs and teaching plans through discussion and negotiation, and, taking into account the national standards of professional construction and the requirements of corporate job capabilities, and building a capacity-based application-oriented, talented, and big data personnel training system to ensure the quality of talent training in Sanda-Sugon Big Data School;
(ii) The two parties discuss and negotiate to establish Big Data Practical Training Base, including Comprehensive Laboratory of Data Analysis and Processing, the Comprehensive Laboratory of Business Data Analysis and Big Data Center.
(iii) Sugog senior engineers reside at Sanda so that the teaching professionals of both sides deeply communicate, exchange ideas, compare notes and jointly undertake the work of teaching, research and development, entrepreneurship and innovation, and other related work of big data.
(c) Sanda-Huawei ICT School
Digitalization has increasingly become a new driving force for global economic development. Cloud Computing, Internet of Things, Artificial Intelligence, ICT (Information Communication Technology) Technology are changing from the past system support based on efficiency enhancement to the present production system based on value creation, and become the engine and core competitiveness of enterprise business development. Sanda University and Huawei Technology Co., Ltd work in cooperation and jointly established “Sanda-Huawei ICT School” in order to enhance the employment competitiveness of students and meet the social demand for ICT talented personnel. Sanda-Huawei ICT School will rely on Huawei's research and development capability of advanced technology, docking with Huawei professional qualification certification system, and jointly cultivate outstanding ICT talented personnel through communication, training and practice.
(i) Sanda-Huawei ICT School has introduced Huawei’s corporate culture and the training mode of the combination of practical hands-on training and classroom theoretical learning, integrated with the talented personnel training system in colleges and universities, and jointly formulated the talented personnel training plan through discussion and consultation by education institution and enterprise,
conforming with the national standards of academic major construction, based on the policy of “Learning content determined by work post, and Work-integrated learning”, and with the enterprise concept of “Classroom teaching promotes practical operation in the workplace, and visi versa”;
(ii) Sanda-Huawei ICT School emphasizes the docking of academic courses with work posts positions, and certification with teaching, and also serves the emerging ICT industry, while meeting the needs of professional construction, to forms the talented personnel training mode of Scenario-based, Standardized and Case-oriented, while meeting the needs of professional construction, and to promote the academic major construction and the docking of teaching content and method with ICT industry.
(iii) Sanda-Huawei ICT School has introduced Huawei’s advanced ICT technology and worked with Huawei in jointly setting up academic major practical courses and the places of experiment and hands-on practice. We have by now established “Routing and Switching Comprehensive Laboratory”, and “Storage and Cloud Computing Comprehensive Laboratory”, as well as Internet Technology Open Laboratory still under construction.
