The School of Management of Sanda University was formally established in April 2003. At present, the school has six undergraduate majors including Tourism Management (Tourism Management and MICE), Hotel Management (Hotel Management and Senior Butler), Engineering Management, Human Resources Management, Labor and Social Security, and Food Quality and Safety Management. Among them, Hotel Management has been designated by the Shanghai Municipality as a pilot project developing the discipline of applied undergraduate study to eventually become the first-class undergraduate discipline in Shanghai. The school has 2,500 students taught and nurtured by a term of more than 60 qualified professionals engaged in teaching, scientific research and management with lecture and professor titles and doctoral and master's degrees. The School has won the honor of Shanghai May 4th Youth Collective Medal and the honor of Shanghai Education System Women's Civilization Team.
Adhering to the concept and spirit of combination of knowledge and practice, innovation and diligent learning, the school is committed to the cultivation of versatile and application-oriented talents, focusing on the enhancement of disciplines, paying attention to the cultivation of multi or cross disciplinary studies, promoting the reform of learning through practice, and advancing international cooperation in running schools. Through the integration of industry, teaching and research and application-oriented innovation. The School aims to create characteristics, establish brand name, and strive to grow into a first-class new high-quality school in Shanghai and even among the similar domestic universities in the country, seeking for the recognition of a new type of high-quality school in the world.
The School of Management actively explores the possibility of establishment of a curriculum system characterized by the cultivation of Industry core technology and post operational capability and focuses more attention to developing students' professional qualities, technical skills and innovative abilities. The School has established a professional steering committee composed of experts, scholars and senior industry managers for each discipline. Senior industrial professionals are often invited to come to the school to teach, lecture and discuss with students on the methods for training talented students and the mechanism of nurturing application-oriented talents.
The School also actively promotes the construction of experimental training bases on campus. At present, the institute has established six experimental training bases, namely, the Hotel Management Teaching Practice Center (Wangyue Building), the Tourism Management Experimental Teaching Center, the Biology and Chemistry Experimental Center, the Engineering Management BIM Training Center, the Human Resources Development and Management Experimental Training Center, and the Labor and Social Security Experimental Training Room, creating good conditions for practical teaching reform, and improvement for students' professional skills and practical abilities.
The School pays good attention to the close cooperation between school and enterprises, the integration of industry and education both inside and outside the campus, and international cooperation to broaden the School international perspective, aiming at cultivating high-quality talented personnel for industries. As a result, Shanghai Sanda University and Marriot Hotel jointly established the Shanghai Sanda University-Marriott Hotel Management College, targeting at the creation and development of a higher education teaching model in international hotel management relying on Marriott International Group ’s rich experience in international hotel management and the advantage of its international platform for systematically training talented personnel, and articulating with Marriott Hotel Group ’s professional standards and training courses.
The School has also established long-term cooperation with well-known enterprises for other disciplines, such as China Airlines Jiaxin, Ctrip and UTour for the discipline of Tourism Management, Shanghai Construction Engineering and Renheng Group for the discipline of Engineering Management, Shanghai District Civil Affairs Bureaus and Municipal Social Welfare Homes for the discipline of Labor and Social Security, China International Intellectech Co. and FESCO for the discipline of Administration and Management, and food quality and safety supervision departments, inspection agencies and leading food companies in Yangtze River Triangle Region for the discipline of Food Quality and Safety.
The employment rate of the School graduates is over 93% for the past several years. The students have performed well in various national, regional, and industry competitions and won various prizes, such as the first prize of the comprehensive all-rounder of the National University THSWARE Cup BIM Software Modeling Contest, the third prize of the National College Student Real Estate Planning and Professional Ability Contest, Bronze Medal for National College Student Sommelier Competition, the third prize of the National Tourism College Service Skills Contest (Hotel Service), the third prize of National College English Contest, Ctrip Campus Customized Teachers Competition School League Winner, regional second prize of MarriottCHEI Future Career Challenges Contest, the fifth place in the National Tourism Industry Wisdom Star Entrepreneurship Competition, the silver medal of Shanghai Municipal Vocational Skills Competition (Class 1 Food Inspectors Group), the second prize of East China Human Resources Management Competition, the bronze medal of Shanghai University Student Environmental Innovation Competition, the third prize of Internet plus Innovation and Creation and Entrepreneurship Competition (Shanghai University Student Innovation and Entrepreneurship Top Ten Projects), and many others.
